Derrida's thesis to understanding the written word is that the assumed superiority of the written text is based on a) Western ethnocentrism and b) the logocentric belief of the superiority of the written word over orality. I have listened to the first part of the video on the French philosopher Jacques Derrida so far, whose worldviews I found to be intriguing and thoughtful. Moreover, Derrida sees a misguided effort in the desire to posit the intentionality of a subject because it can only produce teleological readings/understanding. Jacques Derrida is foundational to the understanding of poststructuralist sentiment towards language: words are not natural expressions of consciousness; rather, they signify pains, jokes and histories of deep-rooted culture. This means that the other always remains fully other to the self: one responds to the needs of the other whilst not fully understanding what these very needs are. And Derrida often presents these ideas in a less flattering light than they deserve. Derrida is careful to assert that there is nothing “outside €? Paul Bowman, author of Deconstructing Popular Culture is an excellent example. Derrida influenced several theorists in any different ways. My understanding of these thinkers ( Deleuze , Lyotard, Foucault, Derrida ) is that while they may not make use of the word . I have a hard time understanding why Derrida went to bat for Dragan, particularly to the point of trying to disrupt a sexual harassment investigation and withdrawing his commitments to the university when he failed to do so.
